A neurosurgeon is not the first stop for every headache
A neurosurgeon operates on the brain, spine, and nerves, and also decides when an operation is not the right step. Many headaches, dizzy spells, and short episodes of back pain are looked after by a physician, a neurologist, or a physiotherapist.
You are more likely to need this specialty when a scan already shows a structural problem, when a nerve is weak, or when another doctor has suggested brain or spine surgery and you want that plan checked.

Reasons people book this OPD
These are common, not complete. Your own doctor may send you for a different reason.
- A brain scan that mentions a tumor, a cyst, a bleed, or hydrocephalus
- Seizures that continue despite medicines, when surgery is being discussed
- Parkinson's disease, when a neurologist has raised deep brain stimulation
- Slip disc, sciatica, or neck pain with weakness, foot drop, or clumsy hands
- Walking that stops after a short distance because the legs feel heavy
- A spine fracture that is stable enough for a planned review
- A second opinion before you agree to brain or spine surgery
Go to a hospital the same day for these
Do not wait for the evening clinic in Sector 15 or the morning clinic in Sector 90 if any of the following is happening now.
- Sudden face droop, arm weakness, or speech trouble
- The worst headache of your life, starting in seconds
- Head injury with blackout, repeated vomiting, a seizure, or growing drowsiness
- New loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness in the private area
- Weakness in the legs or arms that is getting worse by the hour
What to bring, including if you are travelling
Bring the MRI or CT images, not only the typed report, plus older scans, discharge papers, biopsy reports, and a list of medicines. If you are coming from another city or from outside India, an online consultation first can show whether the file is complete before you book travel.
