Back Pain and Sciatica in Gurgaon
Back pain is common, and most episodes are not a sign of a serious spine disease. Muscle strain, a worn disc, and long hours of sitting all play a part.
Sciatica is pain that travels from the lower back through the buttock and down the leg, often along the sciatic nerve. A slip disc is a common cause. Narrowing of the spinal canal can cause a similar pain that limits walking in older adults.

When to see a spine surgeon
A neurosurgeon is more relevant when:
- Pain runs down the leg
- There is weakness, numbness, or a foot drop
- Pain follows cancer, fever, or an injury
- Pain wakes you at night and keeps getting worse
- Bladder or bowel control changes
What is usually tried first
For a first episode of sciatica without weakness, a few days of relative rest, then gradual walking, is reasonable. Not everyone needs an MRI on the first day, and not everyone needs surgery.
When stenosis is the cause and symptoms are mild, medicines, physiotherapy, and changes in activity come first.
If surgery is advised
An operation, when it is advised, aims to free the pressed nerve or give the nerves more room. How much the pain settles varies from person to person, and surgery does not undo wear in the rest of the spine.
Emergency signs
New weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the private area, a seizure, or increasing drowsiness after an injury is an emergency. Go to the nearest hospital emergency department; the OPD is for planned reviews.
